Common Ground invites you on a journey though family intertwined by daily commonalities and a search for embedded racial stereotypes within ourselves. The realities of generational racism are addressed by bridging a reflective crossing of two family cultures through a study of photos and artifacts. Click on each thumbnail for a larger image: |

The reflective bridging of both cultures can only be visualized by stepping over railroad tracks. The crossing of the tracks, a common metaphor for social barriers between races, allows introspection of embedded stereotypes. It is not my intention to present to the viewer an account of racism within society in general but a path for internal processing of racism within ourselves. The photos and articles are a personal collection of the commonalities that I have found on my crossing by reflection of immediate family from 1955-1975. |
