There are a great many reasons why I am an artist. The first reason is that I feel a basic need to create and be creative. Having said this, I feel that my creativity is best used to make a statement. What that statement may be varies from project to project.

On my current project I am communicating my ideas on the current political state of our country through a series of four large paintings. These paintings are based on a series of paintings Norman Rockwell did during World War II entitled “The Four Freedoms.” The paintings in this series were titled: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.

I’ve loosely based each individual painting on Rockwell’s paintings. However, while Rockwell was trying to show that outside forces were threatening the freedoms we enjoy within the United States; my project is instead showing how our freedoms are now threatened directly by the United States Government.
I have used simplified images in a cartoon like style to easily communicate my ideas to the viewer. For the most part I’ve worked in acrylic with some mixed mediums. In addition, I’ve added smaller images to some of the paintings to convey the thoughts, worries, and emotions of the characters. Lastly, I’ve dripped paint down all of the paintings to add a feeling of disorder and to show that things are falling apart around the characters.
