The book, “Lahli’s Song,” is about the journey of a turtle that is walking in her backyard. Lahli goes for a longer walk than her usual and soon finds herself in unfamiliar surroundings. So begins her adventures with many different friends, and many new environments.
Lahli tells us of her new challenges. These challenges teach her to find shelter. And now Lahli has to locate food. Lahli has encounters with new friends of the furry kind, while before she only had a family of people that took care of her. Despite all the strange, scary, events, her determination is what is of foremost importance in the narration of the story. Lahli perseveres through all these events and also finds friendship in her new encounters. Lahli realizes that she has strengths to also help others when necessary. |
The characters in Lahli’s Song have been pets that we have had in our home. The deer was used also because we used to see deer while we lived in the country, and as for Bert, the beaver, his character was needed since Little Ben’s teeth were too small. Bert’s teeth were needed to do the big job of chewing through all the debris into which Maggie fell, when the lightning destroyed the bridge. The names chosen for the characters were of some of my family members and friends who have been great inspirations to me, in the quest for my goals. |

Ultimately, this project in completing Lahli’s Song and her adventures is a parallel of my life. This story represents some of the detours, setbacks, delays, that metaphorically speak of my travels in my arriving to CSU Monterey Bay. What I have learned, is to never to give up and try to find plan A and Plan B, and so on, as the need is called for, in my events. Goals have been lost to me at times, but also through encounters with some very special friends, I have kept sight of my dreams, wishes and goals, and I continue to persevere. |
