For my Capstone I have been taking part in the creation of a new museum on campus currently called the Fort Ord Museum and Archive (FOMA). The museum’s collection consists of former solider created art projects in the mediums of ceramic, painting, glasswork. textiles, bronze sculpture, and photography, as well as original documents produced by Fort Ord's Arts & Crafts Program.

FOMA has given me an opportunity to put theory of what I have learned from my VPA classes into practice. I want to see FOMA take shape as a working program for CSUMB's Museum Studies Program. By getting in on the ground floor I have been able to help create a museum that matches the needs and interest of the local community and its history. It is also exciting that this museum will be run by students under the super\vision of VPA's Museum Studies Program in collaboration with other university disciplines.

I am passionate about this program because it salutes the memory of the men and women who served here at Fort Ord. It offers all interested students hands-on experience, which is rare in the undergraduate curriculum. I have spent the past year working on this project and have seen it the dream of a museum take hold. I have worked in collecting objects and documents for FOMA and have begun the process of data entry using PastPerfect museum collection management software so that there is a record of the collection that will one day be searchable by the community. I also participated in board meetings where we dealt with issues of funding, creating a building to house the museum, and determining FOMA'S institutional relationship to CSUMB.
For my capstone exhibit I have chosen to display a selection of art pieces created by the Fort Ord Army Arts & Crafts Program. There are photographs of soldiers and dependents as well examples of a variety of artworks, which were donated by Richard Puckett who served as a director of the Fort Ord's Arts & Crafts Program.
