  Remembering the Future
This mural is the final product of a year's worth of workshops with the youth in and around the Monticelli Apartments development (841 & 861 Monticelli Ave. Gilroy, CA). The location is a low-income Family and Senior Assisted-Living residence--there are approximately 200 units. The youth we are working with are participating in an after school program that provides tutoring and recreational activities through MACSA (Mexican American Community Services Agency, Inc.). The theme that we have set for this mural revolves around some tensions that have arisen between the youth and some of the elder seniors.
The theme, "Remembering the Future", is intended to have both "sides" explore some of each other's positive attributes in an attempt to foster mutual respect for what each has to offer. The seniors remembering their once "future"; the youth envisioning their present "future". The mural will be on display in VPA until its final placement in Gilroy.
