The Senior Capstone is an opportunity for degree candidates in the Visual and Public Art Department to develop an individual project from start to finish that embodies the goals and competencies of the program. This culminating project demonstrates the six skill areas in the outcome-based model of education:

  • Community Issues Analysis
  • Collaborative Community Planning Skills
  • Creative Production Skills
  • Critical and Evaluative Skills
  • Distribution Skills
These outcomes are demonstrated in the Senior capstone as a reflection of the students' highest level of competency. The Capstne projects are created within the context of the CSUMB community and the communities of the surrounding region. The are the final capping of skills, knowledge, values, and commitments of the individual students. In these unique projects, student artists have identified public themes and critical issues that are relevant to themselves and their audience. These projects are a record of the collaborative and public nature of their best work in the Department of Visual and Public Art.
