Attention, Please    Anna Perez-Rick
The “Attention, Please” exhibition is the result of the curriculum for visual arts enrichment that I have developed and introduced to the adult English-as-a-Second-Language classroom. This arts-based teaching method is especially important to second-language learners who rely on visual cues. The language development exercises invited students to consider social values presented in images portraying families. Through the art-making, students gathered for interaction and shared their definitions of family life, the project’s theme.
Giving students the time to speak and be heard on these issues in the classroom validates them. My hope is to show that this original art-based ESL practice is a socially minded and successful pedagogic model.
